Network & Information Security McAfee Blogs: Meeting With His Royal Highness Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg
Jul 10, 2012 – Brian Contos

We had a tremendous meeting this week at Intel’s Executive Briefing Center with Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini (standing next to me) and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg (standing next to Paul).

We discussed the modern threat landscape. We talked about a wide range of topics on the consumer and enterprise side. Topics covered on the consumer side include security awareness and education for K-12 on cyber bullying, sexting, filmed fights, and online predators. We also discussed safeguards around mobile devices and social media. For the enterprise we focused on malware such as stealth rootkits, recent cyber attacks like High Roller,  and general security events related to insiders, cyber criminals, and nation-states.

Paul shared details regarding the synergies between hardware and software and how Intel and McAfee have come together to revolutionize how threats are being mitigated. This is particularly critical for addressing stealth rootkits which operate similarly to a device driver and exist below the application and operating system level.

The group from Luxembourg shared details about their recent and explosive growth around telecommunications, data centers, and the financial services industry. They have taken a very proactive approach to security and are implementing strong cyber security controls throughout their infrastructure and across public and private businesses. Luxembourg has a highly connected, modern infrastructure that is seeded with a number of security controls in order to provide fast, secure, and reliable service.

It was an absolute pleasure meeting with this team and having an opportunity to share perspectives with Paul, His Royal Highness, and his advisors.
